Mrs. Pauline Hall,
age
62, who lives on Shreve Road, Falls Church, died Monday last, as the result
of placing her head on the track of the Washington and Old Dominion
railroad, near her home. According to the testimony of E. W. Stanley, a
neighbor and eyewitness, as reported to the county police, Mrs. Hall came
from her home, and descended an embankment into the railroad cut. Mr.
Stanley watched for about 15 minutes, and when she failed to reappear, he
went to the edge of the cut, and saw Mrs. Hall standing by the track. He
called to her, and warned her of her danger as a train was approaching. She
stepped back about two feet, and the engine passed her by, Mr. Stanley saw
her kneel and place her head on the south rail of the track, so that the
wheels of one of the railroad cars passed over it. At the time of writing,
it is understood that Dr. Newman, the county coroner, is to view the body.
The case was investigated by Officers Crosen and Roberts.

Stonewall district has lost one of
its aged and esteemed lady citizens in the death of Mrs.
Martha Bowen, whose
mortality the angel of death claimed as its victim on Sunday morning, January
24th. The death angel had hovered about the home of the deceased many
times before and claimed many of her family, but spared her to reach the
honored age of three score and eleven years. She had been in failing
health for two years or more, but her last illness was only of short duration.
She died conscious with blessed words of hope of eternal life issuing from her
quivering lips. The funeral services were conducted at the home by her
favorite minister, Rev. G. M. Connelly, on Tuesday afternoon amid a large
concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The remains were laid to
rest in the family cemetery at the home. One daughter, Mrs. Robert W. Scates, and three sons, John A. Bowen, of Washington DC, J.B. Bowen, of
Northumberland County, and C. A. Bowen, who was at home with his mother.
Three sisters and one brother also survive her. The deceased was kind,
patient, and true in her home and in her community. She will be sadly
missed by many. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved loved ones and
bid them look for comfort to He who giveth and taketh and who stands ready to
give them an abundant entrance into the Paradise beyond to be in glory with
departed loved ones. Mr. J. J. Reynolds was undertaker, and Warner,
