Isaac Hall

What is Isaac Hall's Connection to the Taylor Family and what is his connection to William Hall?

Some info on James

James Taylor was born April 13, 1852. His mother is listed as Ann Taylor. There is no father. The informant is Isaac Hall.

In 1880, James Taylor is married and living next door to the household of Isaac Hall in Fairfax VA. James' son James Jr. and his daughter Silena are listed in Isaac's household as his nephew and niece.

Some info on Isaac(s)

bullet

Isaac Hall had a niece (sister?) named Silena (mother of Eilbeck Hall). James Taylor named one of his daughters Silena.

bullet

William Hall who died in 1832, had 4 deceased sons by the time he died: Jacob, Presley, John, and Isaac. Isaac and Jacob had heirs, according to William's will.

bullet

Isaac Hall, son of William Hall, died in 1897 (will)

bullet

Isaac Hall died in 1855 in DC

bullet

Isaac Hall had a child, Eilbeck, with Silena Hall (This is the one I'm most curious about. Eilbeck and James Taylor are both living with an Isaac Hall in 1860. If this Isaac is Eilbeck's father then there's no way this is the Isaac that is Silena's brother)

bullet

Isaac Hall married Alcinda Arrington in DC in 1853.

bullet

Isaac Hall, 21, married Sarah Sisson, 22, in 1880. He is the child of Isaac and Alcinda.

bullet

Isaac Hall married Frances Davis in 1838 in Alexandria

bullet

Isaac Hall is listed as mulatto in the 1850 census of Alexandria, VA

bullet

Isaac Hall, 35, married India Rolls, 18, in 1871. He is the child of Isaac and Frances.

bullet

Isaac Hall was the executor of Cassandra Hall's will. She was the daughter of William Sr. Isaac is listed as her nephew.

bullet

According to the 1850 census, there are several Isaac Halls in the DC/Virginia area
bullet

Isaac, Fairfax, born 1812

bullet

Isaac, Alexandria, born 1802

bullet

Isaac, DC, born 1819

We now have an Isaac born in 1802, 1812, 1819, 1836, and 1859. And we have one who died before 1831, one in 1855, and one in 1897.

So, who are all these Isaac Halls? Obviously, they aren't the same person. And what are their relationships to each other and to the core William Hall family? We know that Silena Hall is William Sr's child. So is Isaac. Obviously, brother and sister did not have the child Eilbeck. Silena must have married a different Isaac. So who was he? Possibly an heir of Jacob or Isaac (both deceased before 1831)? Or a completely separate Isaac Hall? Also, Isaac Hall was the executor of Cassandra Hall's will. He is her nephew. So, he's either the son of William Jr., or perhaps a child of one of her other siblings?

*Text in purple are the Isaacs that are NOT related to James Taylor. But I still want to know who they are.

Some possibilities:

bullet

Maybe Eilbeck was the father of James. He would've been 17 at the time and possibly Isaac raised James for him? That would've made Silena James' grandmother...a good reason to name his daughter after her.
bullet

Update: Upon further research, Silena/Salina/Lina is a common name throughout the Hall family and their descendants. James naming his daughter Silena fits into this pattern, regardless of whether Silena Hall was James' grandmother or not.

bullet

Was Ann Taylor really Ann Hall, perhaps widowed? Related to Isaac?

bullet

Was Ann Taylor a single woman impregnated by a Hall?

bullet

Was Isaac really James' father? He would've been 40 years old at the time of James' birth...not too old to be his father. But if so, why just be the informant on the birth record? Wouldn't he have just listed himself as the father if he intended to raise him anyway?

Does anyone else have some ideas?
